A
message from the City Manager
…..community conversation results
Cities
across the country are facing tough new economic
realities. Change is inevitable if we are to
overcome the fiscal challenges facing our City.
An important first step of this change process
is to carefully consider the values of the community.
Since September 2009, many members of the community
have taken the time to share with the City their
values and priorities for the community. This
conversation first began in September 2009 with
the release of the Special Edition Fog Cutter
Newsletter which addressed the City’s
new economic reality. Included with this Newsletter
was a Community Priorities Questionnaire. Almost
1,300 members of the community completed and
returned the Questionnaire, and by so doing,
shared their views about City services and program
priorities.
In
follow-up to this Community Priorities Questionnaire,
throughout the months of September and October
2009, the City conducted four Community Values
Public Forums. Attended by more than 270 members
of the public, these Forums provided the community
an opportunity to help shape the City’s
future by identifying the community’s
core values.
The
information provided by the public through the
Community Priorities Questionnaire and at the
Public Forums was presented to the City Council
at a televised Budget Study Session on Monday,
December 21, 2009. (The Questionnaire and Forum
results provided to the City Council at that
meeting are available by clicking the Icons
below.)
The
input offered by the public will continue to
be considered by the City Council as it develops
budget balancing strategies for the Fiscal Years
2010-2012 Biennial Budget. The City Council
will hold the next Budget Study Session in February
2010 to further consider the public’s
input and to provide the City Manager with City
service priorities.
The
City Council and I would like to express our
deep appreciation to the community for participating
in this important community conversation. Together,
we can embrace this opportunity to make Daly
City a better place to live, work and play.
